Proactive Risk Management for Sonae Sierra

We are delighted to announce that following a meticulous selection process, international shopping centre specialist, Sonae Sierra has chosen Rivo Software as its partner to implement our Risk Management solution, Safeguard, to help minimise risk and improve environmental performance.

Sonae Sierra owns 52 Shopping Centres in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Germany, Greece, Romania and Brazil with more than 2.2 million m² of GLA under management with over 8,924 tenants. In 2009 its shopping centres had more than 436 million visits.  Currently, Sonae Sierra has 2 projects under construction and 9 new projects in different phases of development in Portugal, Italy, Germany, Greece, Romania and Brazil.

The company has earned an international reputation for the development of innovative products as well as for is management skills, and has been awarded more international prizes than any other company in this sector.

Corporate responsibility is nothing new at Sonae Sierra. It’s been part of its business for years, and it places a huge emphasis on it throughout the entire shopping centre development process – from planning, to investment, to building, to management.

Sonae Sierra is proud to be leading the way in developing ‘green’ shopping centres, which are more energy, waste and water efficient – and it has picked up several social and environmental awards, in recognition for its efforts. Sonae Sierra was also the first shopping and leisure centre company to receive ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management system.

Sonae Sierra has also developed a positive Safety & Health culture throughout the entire company and its shopping and leisure centres, implementing measures consistent with its objectives and policy, so as to minimize and control potential risks derived from its activity. This attitude was rewarded when Sonae Sierra became the first European company in the shopping centre sector to have a system in conformity with the OHSAS (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series) 18001 standard.
