Occupational Road Risk Seminars with RoSPA

Rivo recently hosted a couple of seminars around the theme of Occupational Road Risk; one in Warwick and one at the Headquarters of Strathclyde Fire and Rescue in Hamilton. The objective of the day was to give clients with some background information on occupational road risk and provide them with some ideas on how to manage road risk and implement some robust road risk strategies.

Statistics have shown that over a third of all road traffic accidents involve someone who is at work. At the seminars, we were fortunate to have a panel of expert speakers including RoSPA’s Head of Road Safety, Kevin Clinton. Kevin is responsible for developing, managing and promoting RoSPA’s road safety policies and also represents RoSPA on the Department for Transport’s ministerial Road Safety Advisory Panel. Kevin’s presentation looked at the number of road casualties and their underlying causes and covered some of the main occupational safety issues and key steps that companies need to follow in order to reduce their exposure.

We also had a legal expert from Biggart Baillie who talked about the legal implications for organisations of not properly managing road risk and also a consultant, Brian Bailey, who has worked with a number of organisations setting up road risk policies and procedures. Brian’s presentation looked at number of different ways that organisations can develop, produce and manage workable, practical and usable road risk policies and procedures.

The final part of the day was looking at driver risk assessments including online aptitude testing and psychometric assessment and risk scoring using RoadMarque and how Safeguard can be used to implement and manage road risk policies.
