Since establishing itself as the only vendor on the prestigious Gartner Magic Quadrant for Environmental, Health & Safety in 2014, to deploy its software in a true multi-tenancy cloud model it has been receiving increasing attention from the US market which has strongly moved towards the benefits of the cloud model for corporate software applications.

EHS and risk reporting and management is vital to SI Group, and they chose Rivo for their highly-configurable and secure cloud-based risk management software platform.

Increased public exposure sees companies hot on risk management

Environmental health & safety professionals are approaching risk management more stringently than ever before – according to new research.

The survey, conducted by cloud software provider, Rivo, found that exactly 50 per cent of EHS professionals identified that they are spending the largest proportion of their budget on improving their business’ risk management performance, indicating this is where they feel they need to improve.

Reducing incidents top Health & Safety management priority

The research, which analyzed data from 181 respondents across 55 countries relating to their primary safety and sustainability concerns, also revealed that nearly two thirds (64%) of EHS professionals named their top priority as reducing the number of incidents and adverse events across their business.

The findings support previous research by Verdantix, which found customers are increasing spend on EHS software by 25 per cent each year.

Integrating their operations & supply chain management and reporting and analytics were indicated as top priority by a substantially smaller number of respondents, with the latter only selected by just one in five EHS professionals.

In comparison, sustainability professionals are most concerned about their business’ reputation and profitability, with 41 per cent placing the reduction of their corporate impact as their number one priority. In addition, the application of materiality to sustainability reporting is prioritized by less than a fifth (19%) of sustainability professionals.

Interestingly, less than a quarter (23%) of safety & sustainability professionals in Asia Pacific named the reduction of incidents as their top priority, with risk management further down the agenda compared to their counterparts in EMEA and Americas.

James Jameson, VP Product Strategy at Rivo, said: “It’s reassuring to see the business landscape placing more and more emphasis on environmental, health and safety.  We are seeing a clear increase in commitment to going beyond compliance, to reducing the number of safety and environmental incidents and prioritizing their budgets accordingly.

“We’re also seeing an increase in convergence of sustainability into environmental, health and safety. Sustainability after all is about resilience as EH&S is. Professionals are increasingly aware of the reputational impact of not getting it right. We have seen a number of cases in the media recently of the potential reputational backlash caused by poor environmental, health & safety standards and practices – how safety and sustainability professionals can work together to effectively get a collective grip on compliance and risk to move their businesses forward is crucial to how they are perceived by potential customers and investors.”

PRESS RELEASE: Rivo Positions in Gartner Magic Quadrant for Operational Risk Management

Rivo, the leader in enterprise software-as-a-service based safety, security, sustainability, supply chain and analytics solutions, today announced it has been named in its second Gartner Magic Quadrant report of 2014, recognised as a global player in Operational Risk Management* (ORM).  On May 6th of this year, Rivo was positioned in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Environmental, Health & Safety Management Systems.  For the ORM report, seventeen different vendors were included in Gartner’s research with each evaluated for completeness of vision and ability to execute with their operational risk management offering in the marketplace.

In Rivo’s view, Gartner’s recognition of the company in this MQ aligns with the increasing trend of businesses identifying that all their operational risks feed into corporate meta-risk affecting performance, profitability and shareholder value, as well as customer trust and reputation.  Rivo is increasingly called upon by organisations to provide an operation-spanning platform to mitigate all their important risk types.  Rivo has introduced the concept of risk socialization to the traditional risk management model as it uses latest technologies to help companies mitigate and control their biggest issues.

This year has seen a significant build on Rivo’s position as a market leader, with predictive analytics, real-time geo mapping and iOS/Android offerings being released to market.

Comment from Rivo’s CEO

Chris Noblet, Rivo’s recently-appointed CEO comments: “This is great news for Rivo.  Being included on what is effectively the premiership for ORM vendors, and being only 1 of 3 to appear on both that and the EHS Magic Quadrant, is a fantastic achievement.  We believe this, along with our impressive list of global corporate clients, will undoubtedly give existing and potential future customers significant confidence when considering Rivo as a partner for helping them manage the risks that affect them the most.”

Manchester Airports Group (MAG) selects Rivo’s Platform to centrally manage safety, security & sustainability

Manchester Airports Group (MAG) is the largest UK-owned airport operator, serving around 44 million passengers every year through its ownership and operation of Manchester, London Stansted, East Midlands and Bournemouth airports.

MAG, our customer since 2012, originally selected Rivo to replace proprietary safety and risk assessment systems with a clear goal of achieving OHSAS 18001 accreditation within 2 years, which all the group’s airports have been accredited with.

Within 6 months, Rivo was successfully deployed and helped MAG achieve standardisation of data capture and reporting across the organisation.  MAG obtained a reduction in accident frequency rates, a decrease in timescales for follow-up on risk assessments, increased visibility of incidents and near-misses and greater employee engagement.

As a continuation of this successful relationship, we are pleased to announce MAG has selected the Rivo Platform, offering one solution to manage all aspects of safety, security and sustainability, open to all employees, from any device – online or offline.  This emphasises the importance MAG places on the safety and wellbeing of their employees, third parties and customers alike and will allow for even more extended employee engagement and complete visibility of all risks across the organisation.

Paul Herdman, our VP Sales for EMEA commented: “MAG’s investment in the Rivo platform is a great acknowledgement of Rivo’s value proposition, offering MAG a comprehensive solution that empowers its employees to be more agile and responsive to risk.”

Simon Butterworth, Health and Safety Director for MAG, said: “Maintaining the highest safety standards across our four airports and property division will be strengthened through our work with Rivo. There are several diverse areas of our business where we must look to ensure we are meeting those standards including on the airfield, in our car parks and terminals; as well as in our construction activity, properties, catering and trolleys. Health and safety is a value with real significance for our business and we need partners who share in our vision.”

Rivo Software is pleased to announce that Keller Group will be implementing Rivo’s market-proven solution throughout their global operations.  Last year, Keller adopted Rivo’s extensive safety software functionality within their Canadian operations, implementing the Incident Management, Audit Management and Training & Competence Management solution layers.

In this project, the entire Rivo platform will be implemented across 40 countries across North America, Australia, Asia, Europe and the Middle East and for all 9000 employees in those regions. A number of vendors were involved in the procurement process, as was the consideration of using in-house technology and systems.  Ultimately, Rivo was able to propose a solution ideally matched to Keller’s corporate safety commitments.  In addition, Rivo demonstrated an acute awareness of the wider effect of safety on Keller’s reputation among its customers.

The significant addition of Keller, the world’s largest independent ground engineering specialist with an annual turnover of £1.5bn further builds on Rivo’s extensive experience in the global construction sector.

Rivo’s view is that this inaugural Gartner MQ for EH&S validates the increased relevance and importance of environment, health & safety on the risk management agenda for organisations. We have been at the forefront of EH&S since its origin over 10 years ago and continue to push the boundaries in operational and strategic risk management. Building on our position as market leaders Rivo recently launched predictive trend analytics, real-time geo mapping and interfaces to integrate GPS systems and moving vehicle control units. With over 200 customers in vertical industries from mining to retailing to utilities, we have improved performance and protection for our clients in areas such as security & loss prevention, quality management, health and safety, governance & compliance and sustainability.

James Jameson, Rivo’s VP of Product Strategy comments: “EH&S is a key part of our product positioning at Rivo. The ability for our customers to manage their operational and strategic risk and compliance in an increasingly globalised and competitive market place is paramount to their success and ours. We believe that the recognition by Gartner in their latest report confirms that we are on the right track; the continued investment and efforts we are making in this space ensures that our customers are better equipped to manage risk and improve their performance.”

The Rivo Viewpoint – Running 205,000 miles in Vodafone’s shoes

We always love to hear about our clients doing fantastic and innovative things to promote the health and wellbeing of their employees and customers.  In today’s modern and health-conscious world where employees increasingly want to work for more responsible organisations, there’s a widely-held view that these kinds of programs are paramount.

As part of their commitment to promoting employee health and wellbeing in their global organisation, Vodafone have been running a scheme called the Vodafone Wellbeing Challenge.  It is a really rather innovative program that is designed to enable employees who enjoy different sports and leisure pastimes to compete with each other while improving the overall health of the company.  In essence, they have worked out the average amount of calories that are burned off in a mile of running and then postulated the amount of time and effort it takes to burn the same amount of calories by partaking in another activity, maybe 5 miles of cycling, an hour’s dancing or half-a-day’s rock climbing for example.  Each employee then records every ‘Vodafone Mile’ that they accrue, and a worldwide league table is created identifying the top regions and top individual performers.  In the most recent challenge, 8724 employees clocked an astonishing 205,000 Vodafone Miles between them, which is equivalent to 8.5 times around the world.

Vodafone created a Wellbeing Circle on their intranet to enable employees to come together in a community of competitiveness across geographical, cultural, functional and ability boundaries.  Entrants looking to be top of the leader board or their friends and colleagues wishing them well could all join in the conversation (with more than a significant dollop of banter, I’m sure) and of course, discuss other issues relating to wellbeing.  As well as promoting cross-company employee wellbeing, this mechanism promoted cross-company employee engagement as well.

In reading this, I expect our management at Rivo to finally make good on their continual threats to get us all cycling to work, wearing pedometers and sitting at our desks on those giant inflatable Swiss balls.  If they do, I guess we’ll have to keep reminding ourselves that it’ll be for our own good.

It would be great to hear about any schemes that your organisations run to promote health and wellbeing among your employees like Vodafone do.  Please join our Linkedin group to share your thoughts.
